Facial recognition to replace boarding pass at Abu Dhabi airport
The Khaleej Times reports that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced biometric facial recognition at the Abu Dhabi airport, where a passenger’s face would serve as his boarding authorization rather than his passport or ticket.
The airport is the first international airport to provide biometric capabilities across all touchpoints, thanks to the new cutting-edge technology that has allowed it to provide superior service to passengers. Rather than using passports or tickets, passengers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) can now use their faces as boarding passes, as reported by Khaleej Times. The concepts will be tested in pilot projects at certain airports in the near future.
According to Khaleej Times, an Abu Dhabi tech firm called NEXT50 will debut its state-of-the-art AI solutions alongside global partners IDEMIA and SITA at a select number of self-service luggage checkpoints, immigration e-gates, and boarding gates prior to implementing the technology across the entire airport.
Better Trips
The Midfield Terminal Building will be the world’s first international airport to provide full biometric capabilities at all touchpoints, thanks to cutting-edge technological advancements. As stated by Ibrahim Al Mannaee, CEO of NEXT50, the biometrics effort is essential to the Emirate’s digital transformation strategy. “Once this project is completed, Abu Dhabi Airport will be the first airport in the region to deploy biometric solutions at every point of contact with passengers, bringing it one step closer to realizing its aim of managing the most technologically sophisticated airport in the world. We’re excited to work with IDEMIA and SITA on this initiative and contribute our knowledge and experience in the fields of AI and data science “A statement made by Al Manatee.
When finished, the program will ensure that passengers have a pleasant, efficient, contactless, and clean “curb-to-gate” experience. According to Khaleej Times, this would mean less waiting around for clients. According to Abu Dhabi Airports’ MD and CEO Eng Jamal Salem Al Dhaheri: “Our dedication to reshaping future airport experiences by delivering technology that promotes efficiency, convenience, and service excellence is further evidenced by the phase one deployment of advanced biometrics at Abu Dhabi International Airport. When construction is complete, Abu Dhabi’s airport will be the first in the world to deploy biometric technology throughout the whole passenger journey, guaranteeing a smooth, safe flight for all.”
